The University Board is the University’s highest decision-making body; and the Vice-Chancellor of the University is the Head of the University. The University is made up of a number of University-wide staff positions, units and bodies that support the University Management and the organisation in different matters. The University’s core activities, i.e. research and education, are organised and run by the University’s eight faculties, which comprise 38 departments, as well as by the University's Centres of Expertise and Research, which are approximately thirty in number.

The University’s rules of procedure
and how they govern the organisation

The University of Gothenburg’s organisation is regulated by the University’s Rules of Procedure, which give a specific description of the overall structure of the organisation and its decision-making paths, as well as what responsibilities and tasks the different staff positions and functions within the organisation are to have.
