Gothenburg Botanical Garden

Research and development is an important part of the work at the Botanical Garden. Researchers from the University of Gothenburg work in the garden and go on research trips to explore plants and trees, analysing their diversity, relationships and development.


Universeum is the largest science centre in northern Europe. The centre is a meeting place for schools, businesses and the research community, but also targets the broad public. The University of Gothenburg is one of the founders of Universeum.

Academy of Music and Drama

Each year, the Academy of Music and Drama offers more than 200 public concerts and performances featuring students, teachers and guest teachers. Programmes are available in the foyer of the Academy of Music and Drama, and on this website:

Jonsered Manor

Jonsered manor is located about 15 km outside Gothenburg, and serves as an intellectual centre where people from all areas of society meet to exchange ideas about culture, science, politics and life in general in an environment where reflection and creativity come naturally.

The Röhsska Museum

Since 1916, the museum has been the only museum in Sweden for design and crafts and regularly hosts lectures by researchers from the University of Gothenburg. The museum is now closed for refurbishing, but opens again during winter 2019. Some workshops are available for visitors. (swedish)

The Department of Conservation in Mariestad

The Department of Conservation cooperates with for example the Swedish National Heritage Board, the National Property Board Sweden, and the Church of Sweden as well as with a number of businesses and organisations in matters relating to cultural heritage.

Sven Lovén Centre for Marine Sciences

The Sven Lovén Centre for Marine Sciences offers the largest stations for marine research and education in Sweden. The Centre caters to a range of different focus areas and research groups from the University of Gothenburg and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. It is also open year-round to visiting researchers and course activities.


HDK – Academy of Design and Crafts at Steneby, University of Gothenburg, offers a number of artistic Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes. The exhibitions at the Steneby Konsthall art gallery offer a great deal of variety, with the students’ graduation exhibition being one of the highlights.

HDK’s Christmas market

Each year in early December, the students at the Academy of Design and Crafts hold their annual Christmas market. This popular event enables students in the areas of design and textile, jewellery and ceramic art to sell their unique, handmade products. Visit HDK's website in early December for more information.

The International Science Festival in Gothenburg

Gothenburg is home to Sweden’s largest knowledge and science event. This magnificent meeting place for knowledge, inspiration and new perspectives attracts some 70 000 visits every year and is one of Europe’s leading popular science events.

Sahlgrenska Science Park

Sahlgrenska Science Park helps innovators and new companies in the field of life science start up their ventures under the best possible conditions. Sahlgrenska Science Park is tasked by Business Region Göteborg, Region Västra Götaland, the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology.

Lindholmen Science Park

Lindholmen Science Park provides an international meeting place for new technology, a world-leading arena for research, innovation and education within mobile internet, intelligent vehicles and transport systems, modern media and design.

Nordens Ark

Nordens Ark is a private non-profit foundation set up to give endangered animals a future. The University of Gothenburg is Nordens Ark’s scientific cooperation partner, and students in some of the University’s programmes complete part of their education there.

GU Ventures

Since 1995, GU Ventures (GU Holding) has provided seed and development capital as well as business competence to projects and companies developed out of the University of Gothenburg. The company aims to finance, initiate, develop and divest commercially viable assets and companies sprung out of the University’s research results and competence.

All University of Gothenburg alumni are welcome to join our network. One way for alumni to maintain and expand their networks is to join the University of Gothenburg’s alumni network.
